Sports & Extra Mural Policy
We use sport as a vehicle for supporting and sustaining the ethos of Generation Schools which centres around human relationships, friendship, coeducation, academia, energy and enrichment, responsibility and leadership.
We have a mantra in the Sports Department which we often ask our students to repeat: ‘Do YOUR best!’ This motto speaks to our philosophy of ensuring that every student becomes the very best version of themselves.
From the youngest group of players to the oldest, our focus in every sport discipline offered is very much ‘skills-based’, as we are acutely aware that not only are we preparing students for the more rigorous mental, physical and social demands of the ‘real world’; we are also trying to engender a love and a passion for sport. This passion guarantees that all our students continue participating for as long as they are able to, well into adulthood.
We differentiate between our students in sports lessons, meaning we are able to offer each student individualised assistance on their level of competence while instilling these skills. We recognise that students need exposure to competition – this is a reality in school (and life) – but we focus heavily on the lessons that can be learnt and the skills that can be improved as a result of participating.
We use the participation of our students in the sports programme to teach some valuable life-skills such as:
- Setting and achieving goals
- Accepting feedback
- Dealing with success, failure and disappointment
- Time management
- Dealing with stress
- Other skills that are sometimes learnt by ‘default’
As parents, you have an important role to play in fostering a passion for sport in your child. Positive feedback at home or on the side of the field can contribute greatly to your child’s enjoyment of sport. Together we are the role-models for your child’s future, how we behave and react will shape their opinions going forward.
Sport is a universal language which transcends all age groups at Generation Schools. It plays a central role in supporting the ethos of the school and a first-class education.
There is an opportunity for all students to maximise their potential via an extensive extracurricular programme which in itself caters to everyone. Students can participate in a wide range of sports and every student should be able to find a skill to become engaged in as well as their personal passion. Teamwork is fostered, leaders are identified and moulded and students learn much about themselves and others; sport is a vehicle for personal development.
The Generation Schools sports team benefits from a team of elite and expert professional coaches, many of whom can boast their own impressive sporting achievements at a high level. In addition, the academic staff are enthusiastically committed to helping deliver the extracurricular programme.
